Private conflict support for men

Before you go back in, find one clear move.

The argument has stopped, but it is not over.

Worried man sitting in a car at night

You are in the car. In the bathroom. Walking around the block. Part of you wants to explain yourself. Part of you wants to disappear. HELM helps you use that pause well.

See the pattern taking over. Settle your system. Understand what just happened. Then return with one grounded action.

Pause. Understand. Return better.

What is happening right now?

“Give me a few minutes. I care about this, and I want to come back able to hear you.”

Then step away. Exhale slowly. Do not build your defence yet.

I feel attacked

I am shutting down

I keep trying to explain

Couple in a tense difficult conversation

The same fight, again

You walked away. Now your mind is preparing the case.

You know the sequence. She tells you something hurt. You explain what you meant. She says you are not listening. You correct one detail. Then another. Your chest tightens. Your voice changes. Or you go silent and leave her alone with the whole conversation. Later, when the pressure is gone, you can see what happened. But in the moment, your automatic pattern was faster than you were.

“What was I supposed to do differently?”

You are not broken

Most men were never taught how to stay present under emotional pressure.

You may know how to solve problems, carry responsibility and keep moving when life gets difficult. But intimate conflict asks for a different capacity. Can you feel yourself becoming defensive without obeying it? Can you hear impact before proving intent? Can you take space without disappearing? Can you return before distance hardens? These are learnable skills. But reading about them after another fight is not enough. They have to be practised where the pattern actually lives.

Helm mission and feedback screen

Meet HELM

Private guidance for the space between conflict and repair.

HELM is a just-in-time relationship tool for men. It is designed for the connected pause after a rupture: when you have stepped away respectfully, the conversation is unresolved and you need help deciding how to return. HELM does not tell you how to win the argument. It helps you interrupt the reaction that keeps creating the same one.

Settle before you speak — use a short grounding action to reduce the pressure driving you to attack, defend, fix or disappear.

See the pattern clearly — name what was triggered, what your automatic response is trying to protect and how that response may be landing.

Choose one clear move — get one practical action for returning, repairing or preparing for the next conversation.

Learn from what happened — report whether the situation became better, worse or stayed the same. HELM uses that feedback to help you recognise what works.

A HELM moment

You are sitting in the car after walking out.

You tell HELM: “I feel attacked.” Here is what a real connected pause can look like.

now

First, get steady

Settle your system

Put both feet on the floor. Exhale longer than you inhale three times. For the next minute, do not rehearse your defence.

insight

Understand the loop

What are you protecting?

HELM asks: what are you most afraid her words mean about you? You may be defending yourself from shame while she is asking you to understand impact. You do not have to agree with every detail to acknowledge what the experience was like for her.

“I was trying so hard to prove what I meant that I stopped hearing what happened for you. Can you tell me that part again?”

Recognise your default

The automatic loop looks different for every man.

HELM is for men in romantic relationships who want to handle conflict better, but do not always know what to do in the moment.

You disappear

You disappear

You become quiet, leave emotionally or wait for the pressure to pass. HELM helps you take space without abandoning the conversation — and return when you said you would.

You defend

You defend

You explain, correct and justify until the conversation becomes a trial about your intentions. HELM helps you hear impact before building your case.

You pursue

You pursue

You push for an answer, demand resolution or keep the conversation going after both of you have lost capacity. HELM helps you pause without treating the pause as rejection.

You replay

You replay

You find the right words hours later, after the damage has already been done. HELM helps you practise recognising the pattern earlier next time.

A man is not initiated by what he knows. He is initiated by what he can hold.

A man is not initiated by what he knows. He is initiated by what he can hold.

Many men reach adulthood without deliberate training in emotional pressure, intimate repair or grounded responsibility. They are expected to know how to stay present without becoming passive. How to be strong without hardening. How to take responsibility without drowning in shame. How to lead themselves when love exposes everything they usually keep defended. HELM is being built as practical training for those moments. The immediate goal is a better return after conflict. The deeper work is becoming a man who can remain connected, awake and responsible when it matters.

Founding co-builder cohort

Help us build the relationship tool men will actually use.

We are inviting 50 men in committed relationships to test the first private version of HELM. Co-builders will use early HELM flows during real connected pauses, report what helped and tell us when the guidance missed the mark. Applications are reviewed for fit with the current prototype.
